Chimpanzee Safaris in Uganda and Rwanda – Chimp Trekking Tours
Chimpanzee Safaris and tours are adventure trips to the parks and game reserves where chimps live. Uganda has several Chimpanzee Trekking Tourist Attractions whereas Rwanda has only Nyungwe National Park in the south. Like gorilla trekking, chimpanzee tours also take place in the forests where these primates live. Biologically, chimpanzees are 98% similar to human beings, so visiting them is a move aimed at strengthening the brotherly bond between them and human. To trek these primates, one must have paid for a chimpanzee trekking permit to secure entrance into the park for tracking. Under chimpanzee safaris, we do have ordinary chimp trekking safaris as well as chimpanzee habituation experience. Chimpanzee habituation is where visitors spend longer time with the adapted chimps in the jungle. Under the most common chimpanzee safaris in Uganda or Rwanda, visitors are allowed one hour to be with the primates in the forest. After then, they trek out of the park.
Like any other tour activity that may be done alone or with other safaris, chimp trekking can be enjoyed in a similar way. Basing on the available time and budget, chimpanzee tours may be taken before or after some other safari activities. For instance in Uganda, if someone doesn’t do chimpanzee tracking alone, he may request for inclusion of other tour activities in the itinerary. Chimp safaris can be bonded together with gorilla trekking, rhino tracking, wildlife safaris, mountain climbing, rafting or any other. In Rwanda, still one may do a chimp trek in Nyungwe supplemented with game safaris, gorilla tour, genocide tours, golden monkeys or any other.
Chimpanzee Safaris in Uganda
In Uganda, we take you to all the chimpanzee trekking sites including Kibale Forest, Budongo Forest, Kyambura Gorge and Kalinzu Central Forest Reserve. Other chimp spots are Semuliki game reserve, Ngamba Island on Lake Victoria and Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC). Uganda’s numerous chimpanzee sites makes the country one of the best chimp trekking destinations on the African continent. Chimpanzee treks are among the most enjoyable forest tours in Uganda which also include gorilla, golden monkey trekking plus nature walks among others.
Chimpanzee Safaris in Rwanda
Nyungwe National Park in Rwanda is the place in the country where chimpanzees are found. All the chimpanzee trekking safaris in Rwanda take place at this thick tropical forest in the south of the country. Chimp trips in Rwanda begin from Kigali and run directly to Nyungwe forest. Or else one may choose to do other safaris like gorilla trekking in the Volcanoes National Park, game safari in Akagera National Park before proceeding to Nyungwe. There are other tourist attractions in Rwanda like the genocide memorials centers, Muzanze caves, Lake Kivu, the mountains and the Ethnographic museum among others. These attractions may be visited before or after chimpanzee safaris to Nyungwe forest. Everything is dependent upon the available time and budget.
